The Song Festival «Joy Across the Land» is Just Around the Corner

The EELK Church Day and Spiritual Song Festival 'Joy Across the Land' will take place on June 28-29, 2024, in Viljandi.

"Although we have a year until 2024, it still marks the beginning of the organizational work, a joyful reunion for the choirs, and practicing the songs again. The songbooks are in the hands of the singers, and the work can begin. We hope that after a long and challenging period, there will be a reason to shout, 'Joy across the land!'" said the artistic director of the song festival, Heli Jürgenson.

Originally, the Church Day and Spiritual Song Festival 'Joy Across the Land' was scheduled to take place in Viljandi in the summer of 2020, but it was repeatedly postponed due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus and the resulting restrictions. The Church Day and Spiritual Song Festival is a major event for the EELK, bringing together not only choirs and musicians but also church workers, clergy, church subsidiaries, and showcasing the Estonian church, its proclamation, and service to the wider public. The previous Church Day and Spiritual Song Festival took place in Tartu in 2015.

Marko Tiitus, the EELK Assessor for Worship and Church Music, stated that the 2024 Church Day and Spiritual Song Festival will be dedicated to the birth of the new hymnbook for the EELK, whose draft should be presented to the Synod in the same year.
